A new Snyder Volunteer Fire Department fire truck caught fire Thursday afternoon On FM 600
Abilene Firefighters and Hawley Volunteer Fire Department were on the scene as the fire ignited brush fires nearby, according to scanner traffic.
“Apparently while on a test drive by a mechanic, a tire caught fire from an as yet to be determined cause,” Snyder VFD said in the statement. “The vehicle sustained extensive damage.”
The truck was relatively new. It only recently went into service on June 19, and cost $347,592.
The department said it is still working to find a replacement as of Sunday. The truck is covered under a warranty.
