Connecticut Officer Dies After Being In A Coma For 13 Years

A Connecticut police officer who had been in a coma for more than a decade following a crash with another officer died Monday.

New Haven Police Officer Diane Gonzalez was involved in the high-speed crash while responding to a violent domestic dispute Sept. 9, 2008, the New Haven Register reports. The 13-year veteran collided with Sgt. Dario “Scott” Aponte, who pronounced dead at the hospital.

Gonzalez suffered a traumatic brain injury in the crash, falling into a coma. She passed away from her injuries 13 years later.

Gonzalez is survived by two daughters and a son.
